Sunrise again this morning - way too good to miss!
Maritta was up for this mornings sunrise - over East Mitten |
As above - sunrise this morning from our balcony |
Today we decided to take a short scenic drive a bit further out west to Page and then return via the Interstate in a southerly loop.
There was quite a bit of traffic around as it is Labour Day
weekend and a lot of people seemed to be making their way home. We have seen police vehicles pulling over cars all over the place. One raced up behind Dale lights flashing - he slowed down and no doubt practising his best ...."I just a foreigner and I didn't know.." speech. As Dale slowed it quickly passed by and flew off down the highway.....I am sure I heard Dale take a deep breath. He has been very vigilant in keeping to the speed limits - even when pushed by some very large trucks keen to travel at faster speeds.
The countryside in this direction has a few more trees and
although there are still some rocky outcrops they are more of a white colour in
nature. It is a real mixture of landscapes, creams, browns, reds - some very rocky and sparse vegetation and just minutes later quite good coverage of vegetation with more trees then a little further again, you see wide open plains with nothing but spindly grasses.
There is a big lake near Page and although we could see it
from a distance we didn’t go in as although the 7day/ $15 entry fee is quite
reasonable, it isn’t if you are only going in to take a few photographs and leave.
We then travelled south through The Gap and Cow Springs back to Monument Valley. I am ashamed to say that we have been spoilt by the grandeur of Monument Valley - now a lot of the large rocks and cliffs just look like "rocks" and we don't get as excited about seeing them or whipping out the camera and photographing them.

Although only 60 miles from Monument Valley the terrain is quite different |
Rocky outcrops near Page are very different to Monument Valley |
Rainbow Plateau, almost billiard table flat as far as the eye can see |
Marble Canyon, near The Gap Arizona |
