Up at 5:50 am, left home about 6:30, for the trip to the
airport, Lauren generously volunteering to take us, arrive at airport a little
before 9 am, got an early flight to Sydney, fortunately, as didn't have much
spare time to do the duty free race around, perhaps a good thing:
Flight to Dallas uneventful, about 15 hours, didn't get much
sleep. Dallas airport is huge (....sure its small for some seasoned travellers
but not for us).
Had to catch the "skytrain" between terminals at
Dallas airport and got lucky taking a random choice for which station was most
near the gate fot El Paso (which wasn't on our tickets, of course....imagine
they wouldn't have know in this in Sydney).
Took ages for our bags to appear in Dallas, had to collect
our bags to go through customs, then give them back for transit to Los Cruces,
thank goodness no need to drag them around the airport BUT we did actually pack
light just in case.
Flight to El Paso, American Airlines new experience...they
even had WIFI active on the plane which you could use on your hand held devices
even during take off and landing. Sent
emails......
Collected car in El Paso and after a little confusion getting
out of the car park and having to figure out how to use the map which we
fortunately downloaded before we left.
Left airport and drove about 80km on I10 then I25 to Las Cruces.
Close to the hotel in Los Cruces, the tablet went flat
followed by Dales phone about 1/2km from hotel which caused some confusion till
we changed batteries between phones. Got to the hotel about 8:30 local time
(3:30pm Melbourne time), quick dinner, hot shower and bed at last!!
The road flyovers can get a bit confusing |
