Day 22 Tuesday 9th September, Shreveport/ Bossier City, Louisiana.

The day started with spectacular fashion, we needed to go back to the Information Centre which we passed yesterday coming into town, about 20 miles back up the I20. Right turn out of the Casino car park, approximately 100 yards then right turn on to the I20 ramp, then instantly into 70+mph traffic, the speed limit was 70 but even the semi’s seemed to interpret this as the "minimum" speed.  This woke me up, unfortunately the video wasn’t running.

We had to stop for fuel about 10 miles out and saw the results of two semi’s not quite merging properly, at least one truck wasn’t going anywhere for some time and it was causing a fair bit of chaos as they had blocked the Interstate on-ramp from what seemed a fairly popular truck stop.

The Interstate can be a bit scary sometimes - especially where they merge!
OOPS...trucks behaving badly.....
Once again the extremely helpful Information centre staff supplied us with a map of the State and advise on  places to visit in our timeframe.

Interesting architechture all over the country side.
The first was the Louisiana State Museum which had a very informative display on early life in the state, some important documents signed by such people as Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S Grant and also many artifacts from the original Caddo Native Americans who lived in the area. The display itself was housed in a circular very Art Deco building with all its original fittings and fixtures. The display dioramas, many of which had been constructed in the 1930’s were worth the visit even without the historical information they provided.

Spectacular detail in the Museum dioramas
After the Museum we decided to visited the Boardwalk, which is an Outlet Shopping Mall alongside the Red River. Maritta found some clothes and after a refreshing cold drink and some Onion Rings.  We struggle to get a decent cup of black tea, although iced tea is very easy to get and the Onion Rings were also very good.
Dale waiting "patiently" for Maritta
We are starting a rating system for Onion Rings, all of which have been better than any we have found in Australia, so far Charlies Diner at Oklahoma City are the best with those at Hilton Garden Inn in Las Cruces a close second, todays at Wild Buffalo Wings third, the ones we had in the Casino last night were quite nice but a bit spicy for our taste. We had some at Sonic a few days ago and although they are supposed to be the best we both found them too sweet for our pallet and so far rate them last (still above Oz though).

It was very hot and humid today, reminds us very much of Darwin around Christmas.
