Day 21 Monday 8th September, Oklahoma City to Bossier City, Louisiana.

Our apologies for not updating for a few days, although the Casino was a great place to stay with a spectacular view they wanted to charge us $13/day for WIFI which we felt was a bit much given it has been free every where else and just so we could update the blog.

Anyway, a big day today, we left Oklahoma City at around 9am and reached Bossier City, Louisiana, about 5:30pm, didn’t stop much except for fuel and to stretch our legs a couple of times. We are determined to stay of the Interstates as much as possible and it was an interesting drive, much of the countryside looking a little like central Victoria, treed and undulating, although still big. Our journey took us through Shawnee, Holdenville, Atoka,  Durant, Sulphur Springs and Gilmer.

Had a couple of exciting moments with some rather large birds (looked like Eagles but how would we know {joke for Lyn and Tristan}). They were very reluctant to leave there road kill, the first took off and flew in front of us for what seemed like forever but was probably only a few seconds, the second pair just sauntered slowly off the road. Then later on an inquisitive locust tried to invite himself into the car for a ride.

Large bird didn't want to leave his dinner (sorry about the photo quality, cut it out of our video)

After this I glanced in the mirror and found a State Trooper, lights flashing etc had miraculously appeared, I slowed and pulled over as much as I could (almost no verge) and he whistled past, the speed limit was 70mph by the way on a single lane undivided road with houses on both sides of the road.  What is really noticeable is that there are no front fences and limited side fences to keep the pets or children inside the property.

The speed limits generally have been very generous unlike Victorian authorities who are well and truly on the side of caution (that why we are called the Nana state).  In fact, apart from usually travelling one or two mph over the limit to avoid being a hazard, we are regularly overtaken by trucks and quite a few State Troopers, sheriffs and local police, who showed no interest at all at our 73 when the limit is 70 mph.

Staying at the Horseshoe Casino on the 24th floor, we have a brilliant view of the Red River which passes between Bossier City and Shreveport.
