Day 6 Sunday 24th August (Las Cruces to Roswell NM)

Today we went for a short......? Drive from Las Cruces to Roswell via Alamaogordo, Mayhill, and Artesia to Roswell and then back via Hondo, Ruidago, Tulanosa and Alamogardo again.   A round rip of approximately 420 miles (....it didn’t look far on the map).

Got stopped by a customs and border security roadblock near White Sands Missile Range and had to produce our passports, fortunately we had them with us.

The route took us through Lincoln County Forest which had some spectacular views as we crested the passes, unfortunately we kept missing the lookouts but may get another opportunity tomorrow. We are very high up here; the B&B is about 3000 feet above sea  level and several of the passes we went through are above 7000 feet.

Scenery on the way to Roswell, approx 5000 ft above sea level - not much in the way of bushes or trees.
Around 7000 feets above sea level.
Finally arrived in Roswell, it is a lot bigger than we expected so it took a while to find the “Aliens”, but when we stopped and walked around the centre of town they became quite evident.

The first place we visited was “Area 51” a pretty "cheesy" attraction but it was only $3 each to get in and it was impressive for the fact it had been there for 15 years and was the work of one local man.

Maritta and Dale with our new friends at Area 51.  Dale needs to watch out for that over friendly alien hand!

After this we visited the Alien Museum which had a huge amount of research and information into various alien sightings including the first crash in 1947.  Fascinating eyewitness accounts, documents covering various government investigations that claim to have found nothing...... it makes you think!!!

It was then time to head back to Las Cruces and dinner at a micro brewery, then back to the Dream Catcher Inn for a relax and a nice glass of wine.

Sunset on the way back to Las Cruces.

Localised storm approaching on the way back to Las Cruces.
