Day 4 Friday 22nd August (Las Cruces NM)

Maritta’s last day of work today, spent most of the day answering emails, sorting and completing her paperwork and generally fighting with the wi-fi connection with the office back in Australia etc.

I spent most of it reading, fetching her cups of tea and an occasional walk around photographing the scenery, bird life that happened to fly into the garden etc.

In the Evening we went back to the Las Cruces lookout so Maritta could see it, then we decided head out to La Posta, a traditional Mexican cantina serving authentic Mexican food in the neighbouring old village of Mesilla for dinner.  Even the local Mexican eat here which is a good sign.  Maritta started with a Horny Margarita and although she was tempted to have a second decided to err on the side of caution.  I did need to drive home ...in the dark and on the wrong side of the road.

For dinner, Maritta had Sour Cream Enchilada served with Mexican slaw and I had the Enchilada Plate which had red and green chillies and pork with red chilli sauce. Very tasty without being hot enough to burn your taste buds.  We followed with Sopillias with honey, a sort of bread based pillow pastry which you smother in lashings of local honey which has a delightful hint of pecan. The honey was from the nearby pecan fields and had a wonderful nutty flavour and wasn’t too sweet, fortunately, very nice. You tend to make quite a mess during the dessert phase and are supplied with several wet wipes to clean up afterwards.

Maritta;s Dinner - generous and tasty
Going home - my first drive in the dark and it was a bit scary.  Have only tried twice to drive into oncoming traffic.......Maritta is a bit "panic-y" at the moment which isn't helping.

Officially start our holidays tomorrow......yay........
